Poetry or Horror? Why I Write Both

If you’ve looked at my books, you might have wondered how I went from writing poetry about mental health to writing about an app that predicts death.

To me, both come from paying attention to fear.

In poetry, I can write about the fears and struggles we carry inside. I can be direct about emotions that people often hide. In horror, I can take a frightening idea and follow it into a story. What would people do? Who would they trust? How would they get through it?

The Weight on My Chest and #MyDeath are different kinds of books, but I put the same care into both. I want readers to feel something when they turn the page.

This October, you’ll see both sides of my writing here on the blog. There’s no need to choose one to belong in the House of Wright.

But I’m curious: when you pick up a book, do you usually want something emotional, something suspenseful, or a little of both?
